Hi Keith,

I have had a couple of these money boxes in the last few years & each time they were reproduction even though some of the paint was rubbed off or chipped & they sold for around £20.00 - £30.00.

We would need some more information from you to determine if yours is actually old, i.e. how did you come by it & when & some photo's from different angles including the base.

Hi Keith,

Thanks for the pictures, it would have helped if we had a picture of the back of the head. These money boxes were made of cast Iron with either a solid back of the head & back, or with holes in the back of the head and a solid back, or with holes in both the back of the head and back.

I believe yours date to around Circa: 1900 and is most probably original. The fact that the base plate is missing will greatly reduce the value.

Hi Keith,

In answer to your 2 questions. Firstly as to the value, as previously said due to the base plate missing, I would either start your auction off at £20.00 with no reserve say for 7 days or as I now do with all my items place them on for a month, at say £30.00 with no reserve & accept have a haggle.

If you choose the first way your item may well go for it's starting price of just £20.00. Had the base plate been on the money box, you may well have got around £50.00 for it.

As regards how much to charge for shipping, you really should weigh it & allow for packing on top. I would send it by STANDARD PARCELS. I imagine the weight to be between 2 - 4 kilo which will cost £7.70 to send in the UK, abroad will be very expensive to send, because of the weight.

Don't forget to get a CERTIFICATE OF POSTING from the post office signed & ask & keep the receipt for postage .

Good luck selling your money box - Ken antiques et cetera
