Kuwait and Gulf Link (KGL) Transport has disputed a recent contract signed between the United States Defence Logistics Agency (DLA) and Dubai-based company Anham.
According to Reuters, officials at KGL have claimed that Anham failed to meet the minimum bidding requirements for the US$2.2 billion contract, which covers the shipping of food and non-food items to American forces in the Middle East.
It requested a response to its challenge within 30 days.
"Our position is clear and that is why we filed the objection,” stated Sam Khatib, business development director at KGL.
The contract, which has a base period of 18 months, was previously handled by the region’s largest provider of logistics services, Agility. However, the company is facing a high-profile court case with accusations of overcharging the US government on three major contracts for logistics services in Iraq, Kuwait and Jordan.
"It is with great gratitude and a compelling sense of duty that our team welcomes the award to expand our support for those serving in the Middle East,” stated a press release from Anham shortly after the contract was announced.
“We have a long track record of meeting and exceeding the contract requirements and expectations of our clients, the United States Government, and all stakeholders. Our capable team will continue to build upon its legacy of delivering the best services at the best value to American taxpayers and the United States Government.”
