I. NANOTECHNOLOGY TRENDS REPORT - 2006 AND BEYOND NOW POSTED
The field of Nanotechnology is already yielding innovative
commercial products, but has not yet matured into a full-fledged
industry. To find out where it's headed and who will benefit, we
recently surveyed the ChangeWave Alliance.
A total of 285 Alliance members participated in this survey -
including 53 who work directly for Nanotech companies and
another 232 knowledgeable in the field.
Bottom Line: Nanotechnology-based products will soon be pervasive in
our everyday lives. Nearly two-thirds of survey respondents (63%)
believe "there will be a wide range of nanotech products on the
market within 5 years," compared to 18% who believe nanotechnology
"needs at least 15 more years to become a mature field."
Benefits vs. Risks. By a 66% to 12% margin, respondents say the
potential benefits of nanotech are greater than the potential risks.
However, 9% also report they are "highly concerned" and 43%
"moderately concerned" about the potential environmental, health and
safety risks of nanoparticles.
Which industries will reap the greatest economic benefits from
Nanotech over the next two years? Hands down it's the
Biotech/Biopharma/Biomedical Industry, chosen by 53% of respondents,
followed by Semiconductors (32%) and Aerospace/Defense (21%).
And which companies do respondents think will produce the most
valuable nanotech-driven innovations over the next 1-3 years?
BioSciences & Medicine:
--Nanogen (NGEN)
Electronics & MEMS:
--Cambridge Display Technology (OLED)
Materials:
--Nanophase Technologies (NANX)
(A) Other Nanotechnology Trends
--Nanotech Sub-Areas - Growth Prospects. NanoBiotechnology (38%) is
considered the nanotech sub-area with the best growth prospects over
the next 2 years, followed by NanoMaterials (26%).
--Promising NanoMaterials. More than half of our survey respondents
(58%) believe Nanotubes represents the nanotech material with the
greatest promise for commercial breakthroughs over the next 2 years.
Quantum Dots (17%) was a distant second.
--Nanotech Investment Firms. By a two-to-one margin (54% to 28%),
respondents see Harris & Harris Group (TINY) as best suited to
succeed in the nanotech field in a head to head match-up against
Arrowhead Research (ARWR).
--Nanotech Tool Companies. We also focused on two of the leaders
in the Nanotech Tools space - Veeco Instruments (VECO) and FEI
Company (FEIC). By nearly 3-to-1, respondents picked Veeco (66%)
over FEI (24%) as the instrument company "best suited to succeed
in the nanotechnology field."
Respondents who chose Veeco focused on its reputation as a market
leader and its broad product offerings. Those who chose FEI noted
the company's commitment to meeting the tough requirements for
improved miniaturization.

Cons Pine, United Carina settle seven-claim dispute

United Carina Resources Corp. and Consolidated Pine Channel Gold
Corp. confirm that the Saskatchewan Department of Industry and
Resources has notified the companies that title to seven claims (S-
137714 to S-137720 inclusive) has been transferred to the companies
as to 50 per cent each. Title to these claims had been in dispute
since they were staked on Nov. 1, 2004, but the dispute has been
settled and the companies now have clear title to them.
One of the seven claims contains a kimberlite pipe known as the
Carolyn kimberlite. The companies participated in a five-hole drill
program on this pipe in 2004 and had samples from one of the holes
tested for diamond content. Only two microdiamonds were recovered,
but further testing will probably be conducted on other samples from
the drill holes.
CMKM Diamonds Inc. and U.S. Canadian Minerals are earning an interest
in four of the claims, one of which includes the Carolyn kimberlite,
and, when the earn-in obligations are complete, the property will be
equally owned as to 25 per cent each, that is: United Carina 25 per
cent, Consolidated Pine Channel 25 per cent, CMKM Diamonds 25 per
cent and U.S. Canadian Minerals 25 per cent.
