Kuwait sells last stake in GlobalSantaFe for $977 mln Thu Dec 15, 2005 02:07 AM ET KUWAIT, Dec 15 (Reuters) - Kuwait Petroleum Corp (KPC) has sold its remaining stake in U.S. energy drilling contractor GlobalSantaFe (GSF.N: Quote, Profile, Research) for $977 million, the state-owned company said on Thursday. KPC said in a statement published in local newspapers it sold the 20 million shares for $48.85 a share, 0.6 percent below the stock's closing price on the New York Stock Exchange on Tuesday. In April KPC sold 23.5 million shares back to GlobalSantaFe for about $809.6 million, reducing its stake to below 8.5 percent from 18.2 percent. These shares were retired. KPC oversees the oil industry in Kuwait, which sits on about a tenth of global petroleum reserves. On Friday last week the Kuwait Investment Office sold a 0.89 percent stake in oil firm BP (BP.L: Quote, Profile, Research) for around $2 billion.
