1. MORNING OUTLOOK
Pre-market futures are higher and suggesting that markets may open
flat to higher. European stocks on Thursday were rising on the back of
the continued decline in the euro, which will benefit the Continent's
export-sensitive manufacturers. Japanese stocks ended Thursday at
13-month high, rising for the fourth session in a row as rising prospects
for a domestic economic recovery fueled buying of cyclically sensitive
issues such as steel manufacturers.
U.S. stocks posted modest losses as a disappointing quarter from
Hewlett-Packard left the Dow with losses while the Nasdaq closed
little changed after spending most of the afternoon in the plus
column amid outsized gains in Network Appliance. The Dow Jones
Industrial Average lost 31.39 points, or 0.33 percent, to
9,397.51. The Nasdaq Composite lost 0.57 points, or 0.03 percent,
to 1,760.54 while the Nasdaq 100 Index added 0.04 points, or 0
percent, to 1299.73. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index lost 0.20
percent while the Russell 2000 Index of small-capitalization
stocks added 0.16 percent. Volume amounted to 1.19 billion on the
NYSE and 1.51 billion on the Nasdaq Stock Market. Market breadth
was positive, with Advancers were leading Decliners by 1754 to
1449 on the NYSE. Nasdaq's Advancers were leading Decliners by
1623 to 1543.
Dow lost 31 points to close at 9397. Dow is trading with positive
momentum above 50 and 200-Day MA. Dow appears to be consolidating
at the top-end of its previous trading channel (8900-9400) and a
break below 9300 would negative while a breakout above 9500 could
trigger a rally towards 10000 in the next few months. DOW's
resistance levels are: 9514, 9636, 9787. DOW's support levels are:
9279, 9162, 9057. Nasdaq lost 0.45 points to close at 1760. Nasdaq
is trading in a tight consolidation pattern in the last few
sessions as it trades with positive momentum above 50 and 200-Day
MA. Nasdaq also has good potential to move-up in the next few
weeks. NASDAQ's resistance levels are: 1788, 1824, 1839. NASDAQ's
support levels are: 1732, 1697, 1680. Thursday's trading could be
cautious and choppy.
