1. MORNING OUTLOOK
Pre-market futures are higher and suggesting that markets may open
flat to higher. Stock-picking was in evidence in European markets on
Friday, as KPN and Vivendi saw gains in mixed trade in major markets.
Japanese stocks closed lower Friday for the first time in five days as
exporters lost ground on fears a stronger yen would hurt their business.
U.S. stocks posted modest gains on Thursday as evidence of an
improving labor market and manufacturing activity spurred
investors and drove the Nasdaq to a 16-month high. The Dow Jones
Industrial Average gained 26.17 points, or 0.28 percent, to
9,423.68. The Nasdaq Composite gained 17.01 points, or 0.97
percent, to 1,777.55 while the Nasdaq 100 Index gained 14.92
points, or 1.15 percent, to 1314.65. The Standard & Poor's 500
Index gained 0.30 percent while the Russell 2000 Index of
small-capitalization stocks gained 1.1 percent. Volume amounted to
1.39 billion on the NYSE and 1.73 billion on the Nasdaq Stock
Market. Market breadth was positive, with Advancers were leading
Decliners by 2077 to 1163 on the NYSE. Nasdaq's Advancers were
leading Decliners by 2063 to 1133.
Dow gained 26 points to close at 9423. Dow is trading with
positive momentum above 50 and 200-Day MA. Dow appears to be
consolidating near the top end of its previous trading channel.
Dow needs to trade above 9450 to signal further strength to move
higher. Watch 9460 area for strength while 9380 area could signal
weakness. DOW's resistance levels are: 9541, 9663, 9814. DOW's
support levels are: 9305, 9187, 9083. Nasdaq gained 17 points to
close at 1777. Nasdaq is also trading with positive momentum and
trading above 50 and 200-day MA. Nasdaq is showing solid strengh
as it trades near overbought condition. NASDAQ's resistance levels
are: 1807, 1846, 1863. NASDAQ's support levels are: 1745, 1703,
1685. Friday's trading could be cautious and choppy.
