1. MORNING OUTLOOK


Pre-market futures are lower and suggesting that markets may open
flat to lower. Tokyo's key stock benchmark ended above the 11,000 level for
the first time in 15 months Thursday as the market got a late boost from
Fujitsu, which soared 10 percent on a reported billion dollar deal with the
British government. A court victory for Bayer and a well-received acquisition
by AXA helped push European stocks higher on Thursday.


U.S. stocks posted modest losses Wednesday, with a tug-of-war
between Altria and DuPont shares holding blue chips to a tight
range throughout the session. In economic news, August housing
starts fell 3.8 percent to a 1.82 million annual rate, right in
line with economists' expectations. Building permits, meanwhile,
jumped 5.8 percent to a 1.89 million rate, the highest level since
last December. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 21.69 points,
or 0.23 percent, to 9,545.65. The Nasdaq Composite lost 4.15
points, or 0.22 percent, to 1,883.10 while the Nasdaq 100 Index
lost 6.02 points, or 0.44 percent, to 1376.80. The Standard &
Poor's 500 Index lost 0.33 percent while the Russell 2000 Index of
small-capitalization stocks lost 0.11 percent. Volume amounted to
1.32 billion on the NYSE and 1.91 billion on the Nasdaq Stock
Market. Market breadth was negative, with Decliners were leading
Advancers by 1658 to 1574 on the NYSE. Nasdaq's Decliners were
leading Advancers by 1613 to 1543.

Dow lost 21.6 points to close at 9545. Dow is trading with
negative momentum as it trades above 50 and 200-Day MA. Dow is
trading above key support level (9500) and holding on to the gains
from Tuesday. Watch 9600 for further strength to the upside and
9500 level for potential breakdown. DOW's resistance levels are:
9664, 9788, 9941. DOW's support levels are: 9425, 9306, 9200.
Nasdaq lost 4. points to close at 1883. Nasdaq is trading with
positive momentum above 50 and 200-Day MA. Nasdaq also trading
near key resistance level and after brief consolidation the index
may trend higher in the next few weeks. NASDAQ's resistance levels
are: 1917, 1958, 1974. NASDAQ's support levels are: 1860, 1829,

cautious and choppy.
