1. MORNING OUTLOOK
U.S. stocks posted solid gains ahead of FOMC meeting as blue chips
extended early advances to finish up more than 100 points and the
Nasdaq Composite closed at its highest level of the day following
an early decline as a survey cooled hopes for robust IT spending
in 2004. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 102.59 points, or
1.04 percent, to 9,965.27. The Nasdaq Composite rose 11.03 points,
or 0.57 percent, to 1,948.85 while the Nasdaq 100 Index rose 11.14
points, or 0.79 percent, to 1418.05. The Standard & Poor's 500
Index rose 0.73 percent while the Russell 2000 Index of
small-capitalization stocks rose 0.75 percent. Volume amounted to
1.19 billion on the NYSE and 1.59 billion on the Nasdaq Stock
Market. Market breadth was positive, with Advancers were leading
Decliners by 2157 to 1088 on the NYSE. Nasdaq's Advancers were
leading Decliners by 1675 to 1485.
Dow gained 102 points to close at 9965. Dow is trading with positive
momentum and trading above 50 and 200-Day MA. Todays' rally in Dow
reversed previous negative trend and showing strong signs of
trading above 10000 level. Trading below 9900 could attract
sellers while 10000 may provide psychological resistance in the
short-term. DOW's resistance levels are: 10089, 10218, 10378.
DOW's support levels are: 9840, 9715, 9605. Nasdaq gained 11
points to close at 1948. Nasdaq is also trading with positive
momentum and showing signs of reversal. Watch 1970 level for key
resistance and 1925 level for potential breakdown. NASDAQ's
resistance levels are: 1975, 2024, 2054. NASDAQ's support levels
are: 1937, 1916, 1892. Tuesday's trading could be cautious and
choppy.
