Manugistics and Chrome Systems Announce Strategic Alliance Targeted at Automotive Industry
ROCKVILLE, Md. & PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 11, 2001--Manugistics Group, Inc. (Nasdaq:MANU - news), the leading global provider of Enterprise Profit Optimization(TM) (EPO) solutions, and Chrome Systems Corporation, a leading provider of automotive data, configuration technology, click-stream analytics and commerce solutions, today announced a global sales and marketing alliance targeted at the automotive industry.

The expected joint offering will combine Manugistics' proven automotive order-to-delivery solution with Chrome's automotive data management services. The combination is designed to enable original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and their suppliers to better predict accurate buyer trends and consumer preferences, and to more quickly identify production issues. Benefits of such a solution can include enhanced customer satisfaction, more accurate forecasting for procurement, manufacturing and distribution, and reduced inventory costs.

The Manugistics vehicle order-to-delivery solution is designed to create a collaborative environment for dealers and manufacturers to enhance manufacturing optimization, reduce inventory levels and order-to-delivery times, and increase consumer and dealer satisfaction. Chrome's order-level data, identified as the most accurate in the industry by CNW Marketing/Research, is also comprehensive - covering 37 makes - and is normalized for accuracy and consistency across all OEMs.

Manugistics automotive clients will also be given access to Chrome's Internet-based vehicle configurator for research and ordering - Chrome Carbook® - which helps companies become a complete online vehicle buying resource for their customers. Its features include a relational database of over 6000 makes and models, as well as 50,000 standard and optional equipment choices.

``Manugistics continues to offer best-of-breed technology from innovators such as Chrome to better meet our automotive clients' specific order-to-delivery needs,'' said Jim Kowalski, Manugistics group vice president of automotive, transportation and travel. ``This approach has helped us remain focused on providing the core optimization and execution offerings that we believe can provide automotive companies with a measurable competitive advantage.''

``Chrome's automotive data management services give Manugistics automotive clients an important tool for ensuring data consistency throughout their sales and ordering process, which can result in fewer errors, faster delivery times, and improved customer satisfaction,'' said David Mingle, president, Chrome Systems. ``We look forward to working with Manugistics to help original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) ensure that the right vehicle with the right options gets to customers where and when they want them.''

Both Manugistics and Chrome have experience implementing their open-standards based technologies into large-scale operations. Chrome provides the North American ordering system for General Motors and its 8,300 dealers. Manugistics solutions are used by such leading automotive companies as BMW AG, Mitsubishi Motors Sales of America, Subaru of America, and Volkswagen AG.
