GlobalNet Announces Successful Testing of Global Mobile
Satellite Service; Integration with GlobalNet's Existing SIP Enabled VoIP Network Completed
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 13, 2004--GlobalNet Corporation(NASDAQ-OTCBB:GLBT) (OTCBB:GLBT) has announced today the successful testing of it's Pre-Paid Mobile Satellite System which serves Turkey, and areas to the south and east, including the eastern Mediterranean, Egypt, Lebanon and Iraq. This technology when combined with GlobalNet's VoIP network enables subscribers to feel the advantage of having access to some of the lowest costs for termination in and out of countries worldwide. Initially, GlobalNet intends to focus their efforts on Iraq in an attempt to service as many of the estimated 16 million residents and Coalition servicemen that do not have access to a stable communication network. This project will serve as a template to carry all the voice traffic from the countries currently in negotiations or awaiting approval from either the DoD or State Department.
"This technology along with the assistance of the consultants we have partnered with will allow GlobalNet to provide the most affordable phone calls for our military and for residents throughout Iraq as well as the three other countries covered within the range of the Earth Stations," stated David Propis, President of GlobalNet. The ability for our military personnel to be in touch with family and friends back home will be of paramount importance in keeping the morale high while on active duty. Additionally, a major factor in rebuilding Iraq is the ability to communicate effectively, not only while in Iraq but by also having the freedom of traveling to other regions within coverage.
The consultants referenced in the S-8 filing filed on January 2, 2004 have assisted GlobalNet in the procurement of the contracts granting the company exclusive rights to offer these services to the military and residents of the initial coverage area and the countries still waiting for approval. The bidding for these contracts became very competitive with some companies offering as much as $15,000,000 for the rights. Mr. Propis continued by stating, "We are extremely pleased and excited to have this opportunity awarded. We anticipate these consultants will not only assist in obtaining future contracts but will continue to assist in strengthening this project. It is premature to estimate revenues and profits from this relationship at this time; however the opportunity could dramatically alter the financial stature of the company positively."
