PARK CITY GROUP ANNOUNCES NEW STRATEGY TO OFFER SOFTWARE PRODUCTS TO MAJOR MARKET SEGMENT RETAILERS WITH 5-50 LOCATIONS
Typical Revenue Per New ASP Customer Expected to be $50,000 or More
PARK CITY, UTAH – April 19, 2004 – Park City Group, Inc. (OTCBB: PKCY) whose technology had its genesis in the operations of Mrs. Fields Cookies and develops and markets patented computer software that helps its retail customers increase their sales while reducing their inventory and labor costs, announced today that it has increased its Fresh Market Manager product availability for mid to small sized grocery and supermarket chains by using an Applications Service Provider (ASP) offering.
ASP services charge a monthly subscription fee on a per department and per location basis, the monthly fee would include tailoring the system to match the business needs, on-going maintenance to the system provided by the service and allows a grocer to have Park City Group be the host system so there would be a small investment in computer hardware. ASP solutions decrease the implementation costs and efforts required to deploy computer software and allow a company to try the software without a high risk. Many small to mid sized companies do not have their own Information Systems departments, or have departments that are already overwhelmed with projects. Having these companies take advantage of an ASP offering of the Fresh Market Manager application for perishable inventory and item level category management can mean taking advantage of extraordinary benefits the software can deliver without the large expenses.
“Offering the mid to small grocery chains a solution such as Fresh Market Manager in an ASP configuration provides us with an entirely new market audience ( makes product available to grocers from 5 to 50 locations which is a substantial number of potential customers) and represents a significant change in our business strategy. Without an offering like this ASP solution, the effort and resources to obtain the benefits of Fresh Market Manager have been virtually unavailable to the small to mid-sized grocer,” states Randy Fields, CEO of Park City Group, Inc. “Our first Fresh Market Manager customer Tesco Lotus in Thailand started their implementation in an ASP mode. It surprised us when they decided to continue to operate in this fashion. It was certainly a clear indication to us that the ASP model could be a profitable option.”
“There are a number of important benefits to an ASP strategy;” continues Fields. “We are expanding the market opportunities. This adds hundreds of potential new customers to our sales opportunities; and because the product is also licensed by the department, the ASP offering has the same ability to compound growth without compounding of the number of new customers, since each grocery customer will likely license the technology for multiple departments over time. Another critical element to the long term success of the Company is also derived from the ASP model by placing a greater emphasis on the recurring predictable income that comes with the monthly subscription aspect of an ASP; it really improves our traditionally “lumpy” revenues which plague all software vendors. It gives a better level of predictability to revenues and we anticipate this could be a major portion of our revenues over the next three to five years, as each ASP customer could represent approximately $50,000 or more in annual revenues. Investors will appreciate the benefits of an emphasis on the recurring revenue stream that comes from an ASP offering, especially when added together with the software maintenance (which our existing customers pay annually) which has increased and remained stable over the past few years. We anticipate that this ASP offering will result in a more rapid sales cycle (because of the reduced risk) and allow the product to more deeply penetrate the grocery market.”
The Company has focused its attention on cultivating a number of prospective small to mid-sized grocery retailers, since it is likely that the larger chains will license the software to be operated by their internal Information Systems department. Licensing Fresh Market Manager to the small to mid-sized grocers in an ASP model will help to balance our revenue growth. The Company has a goal of adding one customer this quarter and three more before the end of the calendar year.
