IMPORTANT NOTICE
CHANGES TO YOUR E*TRADE U.S. BROKERAGE ACCOUNT
EFFECTIVE FROM 5TH AUGUST 2009
Dear Client,
E*TRADE Securities Limited is by means of this email notifying you that on Wednesday 5th August, the E*TRADE FINANCIAL Bank Sweep Accounts (“Sweep Accounts”) will no longer be available to you as an option for the uninvested cash in your U.S. brokerage account. On or about Wednesday 5th August 2009, if you have a Sweep Account, it will be cancelled and any cash will be transferred to your associated brokerage account and held as a Cash Balance at E*TRADE Clearing LLC.
You are not required to take any action to make this change occur. However, you can elect to reduce or eliminate your Cash Balance, which is held at E*TRADE Clearing LLC, by requesting that some or all of your Cash Balance is transferred to your nominated bank account (i.e., an account in your name at a third party bank). We remind you that at the time of placing an order in respect of a proposed securities transaction, you must have sufficient cleared funds in your account to enable that order to be processed.
PLEASE NOTE – CHANGES TO PROTECTIONS
Cash Balances are held by E*TRADE Clearing LLC, are not insured by the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and are not guaranteed deposits. Rather, Cash Balances are unsecured general obligations of E*TRADE Clearing LLC and are protected under SEC Rule 15c3-3 and by the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC). E*TRADE Clearing LLC is a securities broker-dealer and member of SIPC.
SIPC coverage protects brokerage customers against misappropriation or disappearance of cash or securities in the customer’s account at a broker-dealer firm during the bankruptcy of the broker- dealer, but does not protect against a decline in value of securities or other assets. If a broker-dealer is placed in liquidation, a SIPC designated trustee will ensure that what is owed to the customer is returned, within certain limits. Eligible customers who are owed cash and securities by a broker-dealer are protected up to $500,000, of which up to $100,000 may be used to satisfy any portion of a claim that is for cash only, including Cash Balances. Absent misappropriation or disappearance, SIPC protection would not be required because customers would be protected for the full amounts in their accounts. Additional information about SIPC protection is available upon request or at www.sipc.org.
Please do NOT respond to this email as the inbox is not monitored. If you do have any questions, you can contact your local E*TRADE office directly. Contact details for the local offices are shown below. All times shown are local to the office.
