Qualcomm: Color on quarter (QCOM) 52.50 : Following March quarter results, several firms are commenting on QCOM: Credit Suisse says that while they continue to expect WCDMA adoption to accelerate in 2006 and for QCOM to achieve revenue and EPS growth ahead of the overall handset market, they see limited upside to their already optimistic forecasts for WCDMA adoption and handset growth, which they believe are generally in line with market expectations. They believe the current share price is already discounting an optimistic 3G ramp and see limited upside over the next 6-12 months. They would look for evidence of broader CDMA momentum in emerging markets or an accelerated 3G deployment in China to become more constructive in the near-term... Thomas Weisel says there were no real surprises in March quarter, as revenue and EPS came in at the high end of preannounced range. They note that QCOM mgmt confirmed during the call and in the 10-Q filling that the cross-licensing agreement with NOK will expire in April 2007, and the two companies are now engaged in renewal negotiations. Although management assured investors that it expects to renew the contract, they think this highlights the risk of a potential disruption in QCOM's chipset sales since, in the event of a non-renewal, the parties would infringe on each other's patents.

Apple Computer: MacBook Pro 17-inch days away - Think Secret (AAPL) 65.65 : Think Secret reports the co is expected to roll-out the 17-inch MacBook Pro in the next week, sources report, but a MacBook announcement is no longer slated to arrive in tandem, as previously reported. The top-of-the-line MacBook Pro will make its debut at the National Association of Broadcasters, an industry tradeshow that kicks off Saturday with exhibits opening Monday. The co has traditionally made product announcements the Sunday evening before the exhibits open. Sources have speculated that the 17-inch MacBook Pro will ship with a 2.16GHz Core Duo processor and an option to upgrade to the yet-unannounced 2.33GHz Core Duo processor. Several reports in the last week have indicated that Intel (INTC) will be cutting the price of current Core Duo processors and introducing faster models in the near future.
