1. MORNING OUTLOOK
Pre-market futures are lower and suggesting that markets may open
flat to lower. European stocks were moderately higher on Wednesday
after overnight gains in U.S. equities and as airline Air France returned
to profits in its June quarter, earlier than expected. Japanese stocks
closed narrowly lower Wednesday as several cyclical issues eased
following their recent rally, but losses were limited as growing hopes
for a domestic economic recovery supported bank shares.
U.S. stocks reversed earlier losses as the U.S. stock indexes fought
their way back into the plus column Tuesday, closing on an upswing
as buyers took networking, retail and drug shares higher. The Dow
Jones Industrial Average edged up 22.81 points, or 0.24 percent,
to 9,340.45. The Nasdaq Composite edged up 6.34 points, or 0.36
percent, to 1,770.65 while the Nasdaq 100 Index edged up 2.41
points, or 0.18 percent, to 1309.05. The Standard & Poor's 500
Index edged up 0.30 percent while the Russell 2000 Index of
small-capitalization stocks edged up 0.55 percent. Volume amounted
to 1.17 billion on the NYSE and 1.39 billion on the Nasdaq Stock
Market. Market breadth was positive, with Advancers were leading
Decliners by 1817 to 1419 on the NYSE. Nasdaq's Advancers were
leading Decliners by 1656 to 1496.
Dow gained 23 points to close at 9340. Dow is trading with
positive momentum above 50 and 200-Day MA. Dow bounced off its
lower-end of short-term trend channel and reversed its losses
today. Dow could spark a higher move once it trades above 9375
area to recent high. Watch 9375 for potential breakout and 9300
for potential breakdown. DOW's resistance levels are: 9456, 9578,
9727. DOW's support levels are: 9223, 9106, 9002. Nasdaq gained
6.3 points to close at 1770. Nasdaq appears to be more resilient
and could follow Dow in the next few sessions. ASDAQ's resistance
levels are: 1824, 1887, 1908. NASDAQ's support levels are: 1748,
1716, 1693. Wednesday's trading could be cautious and active.
