1. MORNING OUTLOOK
Pre-market futures are higher and suggesting that markets may open
flat to higher. Stock picking was the focus of European markets on Tuesday,
with broader markets trading in range before U.S. investors return from a
three-day hiatus. Tokyo stocks ended slightly Tuesday as investors sank
their teeth into banking stocks on growing optimism over the Japanese
economy.
U.S. stocks ended at session highs Friday as investors cheered an
upbeat report on regional manufacturing, sending the Nasdaq higher
for a fourth straight session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average
climbed 41.61 points, or 0.44 percent, to 9,415.82. The Nasdaq
Composite climbed 10.27 points, or 0.57 percent, to 1,810.45 while
the Nasdaq 100 Index climbed 8.87 points, or 0.67 percent, to
1341.20. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index climbed 0.52 percent
while the Russell 2000 Index of small-capitalization stocks
climbed 0.32 percent. Volume amounted to .94 billion on the NYSE
and 1.22 billion on the Nasdaq Stock Market. Market breadth was
positive, with Advancers were leading Decliners by 2121 to 1050 on
the NYSE. Nasdaq's Advancers were leading Decliners by 1792 to
1326.
Dow gained 42 points to close at 9415. Dow is trading with
positive momentum above 50 and 200-Day MA. Dow appears to be
gaining momentum within its trading channel and Dow needs to trade
and close above 9500 level for further continuation of strong
uptrend. Watch 9350 level for potential breakdown and 9500 level
for a breakout. DOW's resistance levels are: 9533, 9655, 9806.
DOW's support levels are: 9297, 9179, 9075. Nasdaq gained 10.4
points to close at 1810. Nasdaq is trading with positive momentum
but trading in overbought condition. Nasdaq could see some
retracement in the next few sessions. NASDAQ's resistance levels
are: 1841, 1881, 1899. NASDAQ's support levels are: 1783, 1746,
1728. Tuesday's trading could be cautious and active.
